GOP Lawmaker’s School Health Plan Bill on Hold

Thanks to our readers and those who contacted Arizona Senators on the Senate Education Committee regarding Senator Heather Carter’s bill, SB1169, which will allow schools and the Arizona Department of Education to oversee student healthcare.

Also thanks to Arizona residents who are using the Request to Speak option to electronically state their positions on pending bills by simply clicking a thumbs-up or thumbs-down.

We questioned why a Republican would sponsor such an invasive bill, especially one which has the potential of bypassing parental authority. Our keen readers alerted us about Senator Carter and her association with “Save Our Schools Arizona”.

SOSAZ, as it is better known, is an organization against school choice that complains incessantly about a shortage of funds for schools, despite the fact Republican lawmakers at the Arizona Legislature and Governor Doug Ducey regularly approve increases in school funding. The bottom line is Save our Schools Arizona is simply another vehicle to affect elections. Politicians who support SOSAZ by association also support Planned Parenthood and the abortion mill’s candidates.

To the left of Senator Carter is Dawn Penich-Thacker, one of the leaders of SOSAZ. She has been openly critical of school choice, and especially Empowerment Scholarship Accounts (ESAs). Ms. Penich-Thacker has a direct line to Arizona Superintendent of Public Instruction, Kathy Hoffman. Superintendent Hoffman also opposed ESAs during her campaign and has been lax in administering the program since taking office. It just so happens Ms. Penich-Thacker’s SOS organization was privy to private information in the recent ESA data breech.

What could go wrong with the Arizona Department of Education overseeing the health programs of Arizona students? We must continue to keep an eye on Senator Heather Carter’s bills and her votes since her political associations are not in sync with the Republican Party platform.

Carter has been working with Ann Means OBrien on this type of stuff 4 years. They have sos and AZSBA working on taking all parent choice away. Ann uses the Deer Valley School District as her personal platform to push her liberal agendas. She keeps the Superintendent happy and he keeps her daughter happy in a tit4tat employment triangle. Can you say CONFLICT OF INTEREST!!

All parents need to wake up and see what is going on. Too many say “my kids are in a charter” or “I homeschool” but if these women have their way those options will be GONE.
