The quick summary of the April 8, 2019 Cave Creek School Board meeting is the Governing Board agreed to table the controversial curriculum.
Of course, it wasn’t that simple and the situation became more complicated in a very short period of time. It’s a sorry state that adults spend so much time talking about sex for kids, but here we are. Our newest Superintendent of Public Instruction, Kathy Hoffman, is the ringleader for this Arizona circus.
One by one community members paraded to the microphone for public comment about the pending curriculum, which for starters was going to discuss anal and oral sex and for dessert, masturbation. Many supported a new cool curriculum that better reflects the culture we live in. Others patiently begged the governing board to vote down the new sex ed. The concerns centered around the content and the difficulty accessing the new curriculum for review. One father turned around and asked the packed meeting room who really wants their children to learn about anal sex in school. Sadly, four adults raised their hands. At least they were honest. Perhaps those four could rent a classroom after school and conduct their own sex ed class and not subject the rest of the population to their adult desires.
What really turned the situation upside-down were the answers Cave Creek’s curriculum director gave to the governing board. Some board members clearly supported a new curriculum and Ms. Cara Herkamp seemed to want to rush the vote so students would have a chance to learn all about her piece of work before the end of the school year. She even stated “A vote tonight doesn’t mean that you necessarily agree with the curriculum, but that you agree to continue offering our parents a choice to opt-in or opt-out of the curriculum.” Wrong, state law requires opt-in, not Ms. Herkamp. How Mr. Herkamp really blew it is she admitted the district had changed the sex ed curriculum several years ago without governing board approval. That seemed to force board members to pivot and quickly put the brakes on a runaway curriculum director.
For whatever reason, the right decision was made that night. Governing Board member Janet Busbee, while supportive of a new curriculum, called Ms. Herkamp’s product a “rush job.”
What we did learn last month is social media played a huge role with Cave Creek’s pending sex ed decision, both for and against. Those pushing for a radical sex ed agenda were clearly not happy they had opposition. Planned Parenthood, GLSEN, and diversity committees are not used to being challenged. Congratulations to the parents who stood firm and expected better of their children and their children’s leaders.
After Cave Creek’s decision to table the curriculum came down, we knew the opposition would come back harder and even sneakier, sooner rather than later. Little did we know it would take just a couple days for the other side to resurface. As it turned out, the other side is supposed Republicans Governor Doug Ducey and Attorney General Mark Brnovich, along with the pseudo “Republican” Arizona Legislature. Stay tuned.

Wow, knock me over! 🙂 Actually we were not the first domain request for Not In Our Schools. We wanted .com but it was taken so someone beat us to it.
We should make sure that these new sex studies are college and career ready. And that begs the question “What sexual skills are required for college and career?
Well, the high school graduates must be college ready because The University of Arizona has “Free Condom Fridays”. The students must be stepping right up to college life with ease.
I suppose the final exam will be pedophile “teachers” lining up to ensure the lessons have been properly learned. How much more obvious can it be what is actually going on here? Just because someone smiles when they lie doesn’t mean they aren’t actually lying. Of course they are lying. Not only that, they are getting the state’s approval to molest children. Illegal for anyone else but legal, “good” and “safe” if you are certified government indoctrinator. Wait for it…it’s for the children

Interesting comment… The person who was on the review committee for the 6th grade curriculum was the principal at one of the cave Creek schools who left at the beginning of the year but was recently arrested for sexual abuse charges. (Matthew Schenk)

Interesting comment Benjamin Harris, one of the reviewers for the 6th grade curriculum (former principal Matthew schenk) was recently arrested for sexual abuse. It won’t display on their website now that he was one of the reviewers, but prior to the April 8th meeting his name still showed up. I’m not sure at what point they took it off the district website that showed he was one of the committee members who reviewed the curriculum. I didn’t receive any response from the district regarding that.
The district is not answering questions we are told. Whether we agree on the curriculum or not, it’s strange they aren’t responsive. Nobody should be comfortable that Cave Creek Unified is not more forthcoming. What else is going on parents should know about?
